Don Bosco School, Gumla

In the nineteen thousand and nineties, there were no recognized English medium schools in Gumla diocese. There were requests from various quarters to start an English medium school. After a prolonged search and in response to the invitation of the Bishop of Gumla to the Salesians, a 15 acre non-tribal plot, adjacent to the national highway 23, just five Kms away from Gumla town, in the village of Bamhni was purchased and registered in August 1995 for the proposed English medium school and eventually a youth Centre to take care of the youth of the neighbourhood.

The initial works with regard to the land and the building of the compound wall were carried out by Fr. Joseph Varappilly (V.P) and Fr. John Kakkuzhy (K.J.). They used to come from Kereng periodically to supervise the work. After that, Fr. Jose Koorappallil (Jose Mathew), busy as he was with his duties as Assistant Parish Priest and in-charge of CCF at Kereng, generously accepted the responsibility of supervising the building work at Gumla.
